In Montana, a Tribally Led Effort to Restore the Whitebark Pine
Great story! I was a little concerned that the story didn’t give appropriate credit to the folks who developed the procedures and technology for WB pine resistance testing..also hopefully the nursery filled this position (caption to one of the photos).
“Genetic testing at the Coeur d’Alene nursery is currently on hold after the in-house geneticist retired.”
I remember a few CKST folks at a climbing training we had on the Lolo NF. Fortunately we have trained climbers on NF and CKST that enables us to collect seed in house. Climbing whitebarks is fun if you can handle heights and swaying in the breeze. Hopefully those in the region can build capacity and do more cross boundary collaboration in the future.
