Who knows what kind of history this former tree has seen? What caused the wood to grow like that? I love finding art in nature.

Tell us more, Larry. Where did you find it?
My guess that it was a large diameter lodgepole pine. Being in a sunny spot, the log decays very slowly at the 8000 foot elevation near Tuolumne Meadows. Heavy snow can do weird things to lodgepole pines.
